Excerpt

He comes for me then, dark and dangerous and utterly mesmeric. “Take it off.”   I stare at him in shock.   “Take off that dress, Eve, or so help me god I’ll rip it from your body.”   His words are like liquid fire to my core. I stagger away from him so he can’t see my naked lust, so he can’t exploit and revel in what he does to me. “Apologize first,” I gasp, trying to compose myself. Sordid images keep invading my mind. I want every single, glorious inch of him on me and in me.   He’s barely two meters away and closing in fast. “I never apologize to anyone, my angel, you know that.”   “You did in Africa. Do it again now or I’m walking right out of this mansion and I’m not coming back.”   He grinds to a halt and stares at me as if he can’t quite believe I’ve got the balls to speak to him like this. “Don’t make your punishment any worse than it already is, Eve,” he growls.   Other women would be terrified by a threat like this from Dante Santiago but I’m not like other women. “Oh I’m counting on it,” I whisper, watching with dark delight as his gaze drops to devour me whole. My defiance does things to this man that no one else can.   “Ok then, I apologize,” he says softly, taking another step towards me, his eyes blazing into mine. “I apologize for demeaning you. I apologize for leaving you for six weeks without satisfying you. I apologize for leaving your soft skin so bereft of my touch.” He prowls to a stop right in front of me and runs a leisurely finger down the length of my arm as I try not to flinch away. “But most of all, my angel, I apologize for the way I’m going to bend you over this couch and fuck you until you scream.”

Excerpt

“How long have you lived in New York?”
“Over a year.”
“What made you come all the way out here?” In one of our earlier brief conversations he’d mentioned being from Texas. “Were you really a cowboy?”
A grin crossed his face as he tossed a few chips into his mouth. “Yep. I was a real cowboy. My daddy put me on a horse before I could walk. Rode my first bull when I was sixteen and got two broken ribs when he threw me. Mean fucker.” He snickered and took a drink.
“So,” I prodded. “What made you leave?” Part of Cort’s charm was his boyish innocence. His type helped little old ladies across the street and adopted abandoned puppies. I couldn’t imagine him angry, disillusioned, or hopeless.
The smile stretched thin. “I wanted to see what else there was outside of my small town.”
“And you picked so far away? Why not a big city in Texas, like Dallas or Houston?”
“I’m gonna get a beer. You want one?”
Oh, thank God. “Please.” Each day the need built up inside like a vicious beast, eating away at me, and I did whatever I could to soothe it. I’d become an expert at shoplifting from bodegas. The key was to always buy something, even if only a candy bar. Then they rarely suspected you had a bottle tucked into your underwear.
He handed me a beer from the six-pack he brought over, and I drank half of it down before he had a chance to sit. It spread through me, its beautiful coldness numbing the throb of emptiness. I finished it off and set it on the table. Cort had a strange expression on his face.
“Looks like you needed that.”
“I did.” One beer did very little for me now. I’d spent my entire twenties in a haze of vodka, fueled by cocaine and uppers, spending my trust fund as if the money was water. When the faucet turned off, the money dried up, I’d had to replace the Ketel One with Budweiser and wean myself off the drugs. Mostly.
“Want another?”
I nodded, trying like hell to keep my hands from trembling but failing as I snatched the can from him. It went down even easier than the first, and I knew I should stop and not guzzle it, but I couldn’t help myself. Sitting here with Cort in this tiny apartment, eating a sandwich off a paper plate, was a slap-in-the-face reminder of everything I’d lost. I needed this to forget.
The second beer hit me hard, a combination of nerves and little else in my stomach except that sandwich. I pushed aside the fear over what Cort might expect for giving me a place to stay tonight. I knew he’d want something. Everyone did. No one did anything for anyone out of the goodness of their heart.
The room spun, and I leaned back, the can slipping out of my hand.
Whoa. Maybe you better stop there.” The sofa dipped next to me under Cort’s weight as he put a knee down to catch the almost empty can before it fell to the floor. His hand touched mine, and it was warm. The warmest thing to touch me in years.
The last thing I remember was saying to him, “You’re a nice guy. Stay away from me.” Then all went dark.

REVIEW & EXCERPT TOUR: Mixed Up Love by Natasha Madison

Hunter When my business partner asked me to do him a favor, I had no idea he was sending me on a blind date his mother arranged for him. I walked in the bar, saw the woman drinking her third martini, and knew I was in for an eventful night. After the unexpected second date, she didn't know my real name or who I really was. By that time, the lie was too far gone, and I wanted her too much to admit the truth. Laney It's not every day you find out your ex-boyfriend is engaged. I shouldn't have agreed to the blind date. My mother insisted, and I wasn’t in any position to turn down a night out. I will admit, I definitely shouldn't have ordered that fourth martini before said blind date even arrived. The man turned out to be swoon worthy, handsome, condescending—a perfect distraction. Then I found out he was a liar. I've never been in over my head to this degree. Then again, I've never been in love.

REVIEW
☆☆☆☆

Mixed Up Love is a quick, fun and light hearted story. I enjoyed it. Hunter and Laney had good banter that had me laughing more than once. They were so good together. I liked them. I liked the secondary characters too.

I pull up to the front door, and the valet meets me at my door once I stop. “Good evening, sir,” he says once I open my door. “Yeah, I won’t be here long,” I tell him as I get out, not bothering to take off my sunglasses when I hand him the keys. “No worries, sir. It will be here when you are ready,” he says, handing me the ticket for later. I put it in the inside pocket of my suit jacket. I walk inside to the hostess table, where a woman who looks like she is eighteen stands smiling. “How may I help you?” she asks sweetly. I stop and look around to see if I might recognize the woman I’m here to meet, even though I’ve never met her. I spot a couple of women at the bar, but I instinctively know they aren’t her. I also check for exits. It’s not my fault; it’s just instilled in me. Looking to the left, I don’t see anyone sitting alone, but then I look to the right, and I see her. I don’t know why I know it’s her, but I just do. With curly long blond hair, she downs a martini, then picks up another one and brings it to her mouth. I spot a waiter walking with two more martinis on his tray, and I’m not surprised when I see him approaching her table. “Great,” I say under my breath. “I found her,” I tell the hostess and start walking toward the table. She spots me and watches my every move. Luckily, the glasses I’m wearing stop her from seeing my eyes. The closer I get to her, the more my pulse speeds up. What the fuck? This is weird. I look around maybe to see if something else is piquing my interest or maybe I spotted something to elevate my pulse, but no, it’s her. The fact that a gorgeous woman is sitting by herself and drinking like a fish is enough to get any man’s adrenaline pumping. Isn’t it? “Are you Laney?” I ask, taking off my glasses, and my gray eyes finally meet her blue ones. She opens her mouth, expecting, I think, something to come out, but nothing does. I continue looking around to see if anyone is watching her, and it’s no surprise that I spot two guys at the bar sizing her up. “Here are two more.” The waiter smiles at her, putting two more glasses down on the table and taking the two now empty ones away. She laughs nervously, and I want to reach out and trip him when he walks away. “It isn’t what it looks like.” Her soft voice breaks me out of my plan, and I turn back to her as she smiles at me, causing my heartbeat to skyrocket. The collar of my shirt suddenly feels tight, but it’s not even buttoned. “Really? I find it hard to believe,” I finally say. Looking around again, I spot the same two guys in suits sitting at the bar watching her. This time, one of them spots me and looks back down at his drink. “It looks like you’re sitting here waiting for something bad to happen.” I pull out the chair and sit in front of her. “Um.” She still doesn’t say anything.           When her nose isn't buried in a book, or her fingers flying across a keyboard writing, she's in the kitchen creating gourmet meals. You can find her, in four inch heels no less, in the car chauffeuring kids, or possibly with her husband scheduling his business trips. It's a good thing her characters do what she says, because even her Labrador doesn't listen to her...
