What
happens when…
after
leaving the place you called home,
to forget
the girl you loved,
knowing she
chose someone else,
you must
now return for a wedding you can’t bear to watch.
So, you pay
a beautiful girl…
to trek
across the country with you,
pretending
the two of you have plans for a new future,
faking a
relationship in front of your old crew,
unprepared
for when she slams those rounded, green eyes into you.
Suddenly,
you realize…
you are
actually over the bride and ready to move on,
quite sure
the feelings you’ve been pretending to have,
aren’t so
fake after all,
yet, she
needs the money, so you continue to play along.
Trying your
damnedest not to fall…
to remember
she’s an ‘employee’ you paid to come along,
and keep a
promise of no romantic entanglements,
until that
one moment, when you know,
you have
finally found your forever.
Except for
the secrets that threaten it all…
an
uninvited guest from her past shows up at the wedding,
threatening
to crumble your dreams,
and even if
she still picks you,
your dark
secrets might just end everything.

Excerpt
The reception
equaled dream worthy too. The white tent was back in place with a dance floor,
a DJ, and a table with a spectacular cake. Austin sat at the head table, so I
sat with his parents.
“I’ll join you in
just a few,” he whispered into my hair and kissed my neck. “You are so
beautiful.”
My heart flipped
over in my chest. Seriously. It did a complete 360. I knew it was impossible. I
knew I’d be dead if it had truly flipped, but God did it feel like it. The hair
on the back of my neck stood, and I wanted him by my side. My eyes
followed him all the way back to his seat. When he sat, his glance caught mine.
Both of us smiled.
The toasts by Ali
and Ryan were filled with memories held by lifelong friends. Friends that would
be friends forever. I had only a couple of close friends. Austin’s history was
full of positive, fun memories. Mine, well, it wasn’t. For the first time in my
life, I had hope.
The tap on my
shoulder startled me, and when I shifted around, Nick stood glaring at me. He
wore his jeans, Harley boots and sleeveless shirt.
“Nick!” I gasped
mortified and then immediately ushered him away from the reception so there
wouldn’t be a scene. Thank God everyone was preoccupied with the wedding couple
at that moment. “What in God’s name are you doing here?” I hissed scrambling
away.
How was him being
there even possible? This was ridiculous. He had to have hopped on a damn
airplane as soon as Austin hung up on him last night.
“I know you don’t
love him. This is bullshit. This is about the money, Pheebs.”
He wore the Harley
Davidson shirt that I’d bought him last year. I couldn’t stand him.
I negated his words
with my head shake. “No. You’re wrong. This has nothing to do with the
money. You need to leave. Now,” I gritted through clenched teeth so scared that
Austin and I were only in the middle of working through this. It was too
soon for something more to happen.
“I’m sorry,” Austin
growled from behind me. “You’re who the fuck?” he spat out at Nick. God, how
was this happening? I wanted to cry. I wanted to run. I didn’t look at Austin.
“I’m Nick.”
“I had a feeling.
May I see your invitation?”
A confused
expression crossed Nick’s face.
“Oh, you don’t have
one?” Austin asked. “In that case, get the fuck outta here. We are not gonna to
do this here. Not tonight.”
Nick stepped closer,
expanding his chest like this was going to come down to a pissing match. “I’m
not goin anywhere, pretty boy.”

Author Bio
Just the
fact that someone may be reading my ‘bio’ thrills me. What does one say in an
author bio? Well, I LOVE to write! Sometimes characters talk to me in my head
(in a non-psychotic way) and I have to get what they are saying out on paper!
So, here we are! :)
I am a
part-time juvenile probation officer and full-time wife, but I spend the
majority of the time helping my two favorite, college-aged sons navigate
through life and hopefully become the best humans they can be.
I am a huge
fan of the Kansas Jayhawks, the Oregon Ducks, the Chicago Cubs (I have a dog
named Wrigley) and the Kansas City Chiefs.
I’m
terribly addicted to music—ALLLLL kinds and driving in the car with the sunroof
open and radio turned up helps the creative juices flow.
I am deliciously
addicted to queso and cupcakes; but even with that…I like to slowly kill my
body with Crossfit. I’m annoyingly sarcastic.
People ask
me ‘what has been your favorite book to write’—I would have to say my original
series. (I think it sold 100 copies) J
FINALLY, I’m tweaking them! My heart was poured into these books—but
they needed tweaking. Slick was my
Amazon best seller, but every one of them mean something to me.
In the end,
I truly believe life is taken way too seriously by most. I say enjoy every
moment, have an adult beverage and READ!! Cheers….
