He’s a perplexing mess.
Serving me happiness and hurting my heart all at once.
After two years of waiting, I’m finally giving up on the secret love I hold.
This is until he shows me a tiny fragment that makes me believe he cares.
But when he leaves, my self worth might be damaged beyond repair.
When he comes back with an interesting proposition, I accept knowing I’ll never care about him again.
Fitting, and exactly what he deserves.

Nora Davis
A sweet steady soul.
After the last girl I loved broke my heart and threw it away,
I didn’t think loving again was in the cards for me until Nora.
But there’s a problem.
I’m rotten.
I’ve wasted myself on other people to numb out the hole in my chest.
Nora deserves so much more than my broken fragments.
But I can’t let go, even after the mess I’ve made.
Now I’m rushing to her, making a crazy offer––one that gives my love away without knowing if I’ll get anything in return.
Exactly what I deserve if you ask me.

EXCERPT
“Nora.”
She flinches, and sharp pains prickle up my skin.
My shoulders drop, and I try again. “Nora.”
No flinch this time.
“Please. Please look at me.”
She shakes her head and flicks her gaze to the wall. “I can’t.”
“Why?” I close more of our gap, my heart tromboning between my stomach and throat. “Because you hate me, or because it’s too painful?”
She scoffs. “What difference does it make?”
“All the difference.” I shrug and pocket my hands. “One means everything we had between us is dead––the other is…” I sigh. “Hope. Hope that maybe we can start again.”
She hugs herself tightly, sealing herself away.
“Pain can heal, Nora. Fractures can be mended. But hate?” I shake my head, my heart weighted in my chest. “Hate only turns into bitterness. So…,” my throat goes dry, “Do you hate me?”
AUTHOR BIO
Garnet Christie is an author and Midwestern native living in the desert. Though she misses trees, Garnet admits there is an acrid beauty to the place that has been home for twenty years.
She loves serving up Alpha males who are searching for their happily ever after, and paring them up with women who are equally, if not more, reluctant.
When not writing, Garnet is found reading, dancing, and spending too much money on K-pop merch. All the above is achieved by drinking too much tea, avoiding sleep, and eating chocolate. Garnet also adores Italian food and will go to great lengths to hunt down a fantastic plate of Chicken Marsala that comes with a cannoli.
