“That was one spectacular brunch,” Gareth sighed, mellow and content, as they wandered slowly along the beach. He hadn’t just eaten oysters until he was ready to pop and washed them down with a bottle of creamy, lemon-scented fizz. They’d also been ordered to stop by the shack on their way home to collect a cooler full of freshly caught, baked, and smoked goodies to take with them. And Jack, who took orders as well as a mule, hadn’t said a word against the edict. Now the surf was a soft rattle of pebbles and hiss of foam sinking through sand, the sun caressed his skin, and the salty breeze was surprisingly pleasant. It wasn’t summer warm, but nowhere near chilly either. “And this… this is perfect.” The day got better than perfect when Jack shed his green fleece, showing off the steel-gray sleeveless top he wore underneath. Gareth feasted his eyes on the long, elegant line of Jack’s back and slid his gaze across wide shoulders down to strong, muscled arms and capable, long-fingered hands. For someone who always complained about Gareth’s teasing, Jack wasn’t doing a half-bad job of it himself. He looked edible standing on the pebble beach, framed by the endlessly shifting gray-green wash of the sea and with the soft blue and white of an April sky above. Besides my family, my greatest love in life is books. Reading them, writing them, holding them, smelling them…well, you get the idea. I’ve always loved to read, and some of my earliest childhood memories are me, tucked away in my room, lost in a good book. I received a five dollar allowance each week, and I always — always — spent it on books. My love affair with writing started early, but it mostly involved journaling and writing silly poems. Thank you for choosing to read my book. I am a wife and stay at home mom to two wonderful children. My family is my world and one of the reasons I started writing was so I could be home for them. I was born in raised in Massachusetts where I still live today with my amazing family.

As a child and young adult I was never a big reader and I think it was because I never found a genre or a series I really enjoyed. After having my son fell in love with Contemporary Romance and I have built up quite the collection since then. As I started to read more, I started to notice things I really enjoyed in a book and things I didn’t and realizing what I didn’t enjoy really made me want to write more.

I literally woke up one morning and started writing. I was bored and unhappy with what I was doing in life and since I had an idea in mind for the start of a book, I sat down and went for it. I realized that if there was ever a time for me to do it, it was now, because my hours at work were slow and the kids were off enjoying their friends for summer vacation.

I finished the first book in two weeks and decided that I really enjoyed writing, so I kept going. I already had an idea in mind for a book two and three, so I kept writing and that is how the Learning to Love Series was born. Somewhere along the lines one of my Beta readers convinced me that Michael needed a story to so I added the fourth and final book. I hope you enjoy my books as much as I have enjoyed writing them.

I am so glad I started this writing journey and I hope you will stay with me for the ride. I will definitely be writing more in the future. Chasing Dreams is one of my favorites and is my first stand alone, but stay tuned for the next book to come!

Chapter One Excerpt I was just about to open my driver’s side door when I turned toward the rumbling of a motorcycle that came to a halt next to me. A black leather jacket covered, chiseled-to-perfection male specimen kicked the kickstand and removed his helmet. My breath hitched at the sight of our grocery checkout friend. A warm pool of heat flowed effortlessly through my veins. What in the world was going on with my traitorous body? I watched his movements as he placed his helmet on the handlebars and swung his leg, lifting himself off his bike. “You need some help there?” he asked blankly and sauntered to the side with the flat. “I do.” I said softly. Closely watching his every move, I should have been tense, on guard—for heaven’s sake this man was technically a stranger—but I felt a sense of safety in his presence. I think he just asked me something, but for the life of me, I had no idea what he said. With a kind voice and a sexy grin, he asked if I had a spare in the trunk. I hoped I did, my car wasn’t that old. Sometimes I missed that damn Mercedes, but with a baby to support that was not a practical choice. So, I traded it in for this Altima and lived off the rest. “I think so.” I popped the trunk. Standing at the open trunk, he searched until he found what he was looking for. Spare tire and jack in hand, he got to work. Ten minutes later, my tire was changed and just in time. It started to drizzle again. Our mystery friend slammed the trunk shut and tapped it twice before looking at me. I felt so out of sorts near this man, and a faint flush warmed my cheeks. “Thank you, Mr. . . ” I realized I didn’t even know his name. Smirking he stuck his hand out. “Name’s Alex, or AJ, as everyone else calls me.” “Well thank you, Mr.—umm, I mean, Alex.” And for the third time that day, I felt the blush in my cheeks. “My pleasure, Miss—” “Oh, I’m sorry. It’s Grace, and thank you again for your help, and the balloon.” Alex nodded like a gentleman. “I’d tell you to have your husband get you a new tire but didn’t see a ring on your finger. I blinked, looking to my left and right to be sure he was talking to me.

Since I didn’t see anyone else around me, I decided he was talking to me, but I just couldn’t get my legs to cooperate out of fear.

Not to mention that I would have to walk through the lot of them to get to my house.

When I didn’t move fast enough, he issued the order again, only this time it was biting.

“Go. Home,” he snapped.

I turned on my heel and started walking, coming to a sudden stop when Doogan still refused to move.

“Mother of God,” I whispered.  “Come on Doog,” I whispered frantically.  “Let’s go.”

He did move, just not in the correct direction.

No, he walked straight up to Griffin and licked his hand, a hand that was stuck out, not in invitation to approach, but instead to stop the dog from getting too close to him.

“Can’t you control your fuckin’ dog?” He grated out angrily.

Tears were stinging my eyes, because, by that point, I had the attention of not just Griffin, but the whole freakin’ lot of them.

My heart was beating frantically in my chest as they watched me, and I just knew that if I didn’t get the hell out of there I’d get the hell beaten out of me…or worse.

“Where do you live?”  Griffin asked, taking a hold of Doogan’s leash.

It slipped from my hands, and I watched in helpless horror as it did.

And what did Doogan do?

He freakin’ followed him!

“Umm,” I whispered.  “Three duplexes down from here.”

“Be back,” Griffin said as he took my hand in his free one and started to walk me back to my house.

The men returned their stares on the man they were circling, and I glanced over my shoulder just in time to see one of the big ones kick the poor guy on the ground next to his feet.

He didn’t say a word, and neither did I.

I was too scared.

What if he beat the shit out of me?

Raped me?

What if…

“I’m not going to hurt you,” Griffin growled, interrupting my inner diatribe.

“I know,” I lied.

He snorted.  “Stop shaking.  I said I wouldn’t harm you.  I’m a cop.”

Yeah, but good cops didn’t beat the shit out of people in the dark of night.

Lies
